5. Mobile - What are mobile companies are doing to change the future of mobile in emerging markets, wireless payments, devices, services and m-commerce

What do you think of those panels and our theme? Will you be interested to attend? Do you have a better idea (or speaker) that would fit in the theme? Let us know - submit your comments on this post!

Managing Global Teams – insights by Infosys

Today, Jitin Goyal (Vice President and Head of Banking & Capital Markets Group) from Infosys spoke to members of the Technology and Emerging Markets clubs about managing teams that are culturally and geographically disparate. He had some interesting insights and gave us a true feel for what it’s like to work across continents. This theme is very central to the diversity values that London Business School strives to instil.

Innovation in an Economic Downturn, London, 1 Plough Place, 4th Dec 2008, 5pm

On Thursday 4th December, Lord Drayson, Minister of State for Science and Innovation will make a keynote speech on the importance of innovation in an economic downturn.

Lord Drayson will then join a panel discussion with Brent Hoberman, co-founder of Lastminute.com and Charlie Leadbeater, innovation expert and NESTA Visiting Fellow to consider the opportunities arising out of the downturn. Jonathan Kestenbaum, NESTA’s Chief Executive will moderate.

The event marks the launch of a NESTA report – ‘The Networked Recession’ - which will highlight how in an ultra-connected world, events a thousands miles away can affect us almost immediately: Our ability to respond effectively to the downturn will depend upon the resilience of those networks and our ability to manage the challenges they present. It will argue that the UK needs targeted investments on infrastructure, alongside a new economic strategy that reflects the changing nature of the economy.

Registration is full already, but here is the link.

Date: Thursday 4th December

Time: Registration will be from 5.00pm. Presentations will start promptly at 5.30pm

Venue: NESTA, 1 Plough Place, London, EC4A 1DE

Networking will follow the main event.

London Business School Technology Club starts a blog

Last week I've been talking to Dalit (LBS Tech Club Co-President '07) and she said: 'Last year I found out about the Tech Summit 1 day before the Summit'. That's not good, I thought. If even the former club president doesn't know about the club events, there is something wrong with our beloved school Portal... why don't we start something external like a blog?

So here it is now to address 3 goals Tech Club Portal discussion board doesn't serve:

  1. Be a newsletter on things happening at school and in London: speakers, conferences, events - and  potentially worldwide - that are of interest to LBS Tech Community
  2. Create a more informal atmosphere and ask for your feedback, advice and ideas - so that you won't spam 1000 people while giving it to us
  3. Let people who are not often on campus (alumni, admits or aspiring applicants)  find out what's going on

Let's get started!
